Steve Schwegel
Owner
Steve is the owner of Alton Physical Therapy, PC. Steve purchased the clinic from his mentor, William P. Nash PT, in 2010. Alton Physical Therapy was established in 1982 and has delivered a high level of care for greater than 40 years. Steve joined the practice in 1990. Alton Physical Therapy is the most respected and established physical therapy system in the metro-east region.
Steve was born and raised in Alton, Illinois. After attending parochial schools for elementary education, he graduated from Marquette High School in 1986. He then attended St. Louis University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 1990. Since that time, he has continued to complete yearly continuing education courses.
Steve has over 32 years of experience as a physical therapist with an emphasis on orthopaedics. Steve is a member of the Orthopaedic, Sport, and Private Practice Sections of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), which allows him to stay current on the most recent advances in evidence-based treatment options.
Steve has been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be mentored by high-level professionals including William Nash, PT, and his parents. His interest in therapy began with several injuries that he incurred with sports in high school.

Blake McAfee
Partner
Blake was born and raised in Piasa, Illinois. He attended Southwestern High School during which time he interned with Alton Physical Therapy as a PT Tech where his introduction to the profession began. He attended Maryville University in Saint Louis where he received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
He joined the practice in 2012 and has since had the opportunity to integrate both within the private practice and within a variety of hospital contracts that APT has had the pleasure of working with. His clinical focus is in orthopedics with certifications in Dry Needling, SFMA, and Manipulation.
Blake became a partner in Alton Physical Therapy in 2021 with the goal of continuing the long-standing tradition APT has as service based private practice focused on the growth of practitioners and the wellbeing of the communities we serve. His emphasis is on clinical education of both patients and the generations of therapists to come.
Michael Coalson
Partner
Mike was born and raised in Staunton, Il. He graduated from Staunton High School in 2001. Following high school he attended Maryville University in St. Louis earning is Masters of Physical Therapy in 2006.
Mike chose the field of physical therapy based upon his desire to work in healthcare and his love for the sciences.
He joined APT in 2008 as the director of the Staunton facility. In 2021 Mike was blessed with the opportunity to become a partner within APT, and now shares his time between multiple facilities.
Mike has experience working with a variety of diagnoses throughout his career. His area of interest includes orthopedic and sports injuries and has certification in Manipulation and Graston Technique.
Mike’s goal is to continue the APT tradition of providing the most outstanding rehab care in the Riverbend area, as well as to continue to provide a great work experience for the APT staff.
